Did you know...

Tucker-Maxon's main building, Tucker Hall, was designed by a world-renowned architect? Born in Ancona, Italy in 1899, Pietro Belluschi was a leading modern architect and pioneer of the Northwest regional style.

By the time Tucker Hall was built in 1953, Mr. Belluschi had already come to national attention. His model home for returning World War II veterans had been featured in Life Magazine, and he had completed the Equitable (now Commonwealth) Building in downtown Portland. According to his 1994 New York Times obituary it was the Equitable Building that “put Mr. Belluschi at the cutting edge of modern commercial architecture.” The same obituary described the tower as “one of the most elegantly sleek towers of glass and aluminum ever built.”

Mr. Belluschi would go on to serve as the dean of architecture for MIT and receive the gold medal of the American Institute of Architects. His best-known buildings include the Portland Art Museum, the Bank of America Building (San Francisco), and the Pan Am Building and Julliard School in New York City.
